I was so excited when Rebecca decided to do a beautiful milk bath session for her maternity shoot. Rebecca is pregnant with her second child, a girl, so we knew we needed to do beautiful, vibrant flowers!
What’s in the Bath?
Everyone has their own recipe for milk baths ranging from powder milk to powdered coffee creamer (weird right?). We decided to use the following recipe and it was absolutely perfect. It smelled heavenly.
- 1 cup of sea salt
- 1/2 cup of baking soda
- 2 cups of almond milk (unsweetened)
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 15 drops of lavender essential oil
For fellow photographers – Remember to check the temperature of the water and help Mom in and out of the tub. The coconut oil can make things very slippery!
We started adding the flowers and the results were simply stunning! Rebecca was a natural and even little Casey (arriving in the fall) was having a good time! She kicked several times creating ripples in the water.
During the whole session, Rebecca’s 6 year old son was sneaking peeks to see what we were doing. We all kept joking about how this was so different than the bath toys that we normally in the tub. He suggested we add some, so of course, we did!
We started with some rubber ducks! Rebecca is a speech therapist and had a whole basket full in her office. Her son helped us arrange them just right!
Next he decided that he wanted to pick the toys that went into the tub with his mom and soon-to-be baby sister. He expertly curated the entire shot! He wanted to make sure that the toys were exactly where he thought they should be (and that every little piece was attached to the submarine!).
Not only was it fun to let him join in on the session, but it really created the true picture of motherhood. How many of us moms (if we get to take a relaxing bath) have to share our bathtubs with plastic frogs, boats, and the occasional shark?
I can’t wait to meet sweet Casey and do her milk bath session!
